Dating someone in another country adds distance, time zones and sometimes a language gap. It also raises the stakes on trust. Hemisphere Hearts is not open yet, so this article explains what we plan to build, what we are still deciding, and what we will not claim until it is real.
Our rule: no safety claims we cannot back up
Many dating services use words like βverifiedβ and βsecureβ loosely. We will not. Our Safety and trust page lists planned features as plans, and we will update it as each one goes live. If a feature is not running, we will not describe it as if it were.
What we plan to have at launch
- Reporting. A Report button on every profile and message, so you can flag anyone who makes you uncomfortable or looks like a scam.
- Blocking. One tap, and you stop seeing each other. The other person is not notified.
- Human review. People, not only software, will look at new profiles and at reports. We will describe exactly what is reviewed once the process is running.
- Privacy controls. You choose what appears on your profile and who sees it. Your contact details stay private until you decide to share them.
What we are still deciding: verification
We are still working out how identity or photo verification will work, including which vendor and which checks. We are comparing options before committing. Until a real process exists, we will not label any profile βverified.β When we do launch verification, we will explain what it checks, what it does not, and what data it needs from you.
Privacy when your data crosses borders
Members will live in different countries with different privacy laws. We are planning for this up front, including how we ask for consent from members in places such as Brazil, and we are having a US attorney review our terms and privacy policy before launch. You can read the current drafts on our Privacy and Terms pages.
What you can do today
Software can only do so much. Most romance scams follow familiar patterns, and knowing them protects you on any platform:
- Be wary of anyone who pushes to move to a private messaging app within days.
- Never send money, gift cards, crypto or wire transfers to someone you have not met.
- Ask for a live video call early. Repeated excuses are a warning sign.
- Never share ID, bank details or intimate images with someone you have not met in person.
