Why Your Dating Profile Photos Are Reviewed Before They Go Live

When you upload a photo to Hemisphere Hearts, other members won’t see it right away. A person on our team reviews it first. We know this adds a short wait, so here is why we do it.

Why we review photos

Photos are the first thing people see, and they are also a common way for contact details and misleading content to slip past text filters. We block phone numbers, emails, and social handles in messages and bios. A photo review closes the same gap for images.

What reviewers look for

Reviewers check each photo for:

  • Phone numbers, emails, or social media handles.
  • QR codes.
  • Watermarks with contact details.
  • Signs or screenshots that show personal information.

Photos that show these are rejected. We also act immediately on anything that puts a person at risk, and our safety page explains how we handle that.

Review is done by people. Nothing here is detected automatically, so reviewers look at each photo themselves.

How long it takes

Our internal target is to review new photos within 24 hours. We flag any photo that has been waiting longer so it gets looked at. This is a goal we hold ourselves to, not a guarantee, and it may change as we learn more once we open.

Choosing photos that pass

  1. Show your face clearly. A recent, well-lit photo beats a group shot where nobody can tell who you are.
  2. Use real photos of you. Please don’t upload images of other people.
  3. Keep personal details out of the frame. Check the background for signs, screens, and name tags.
  4. Add variety. You can upload up to 5 photos: one clear portrait plus a few that show your life and interests.

Photos can be JPG, PNG, or WebP, up to 8 MB each. Once approved, you can tap any photo to make it your main image.

A little patience, a safer place

Review is part of how we try to make Hemisphere Hearts a place where people can trust what they see. Join the waitlist and we’ll tell you when we open.
