Law enforcement protocols

How authorities can request information

Version 2026-11-05 Β· Draft, pending legal review

Hemisphere Hearts cooperates with valid law enforcement requests while protecting our members\u2019 privacy. This page explains how to contact us and what we need from you.

Who this page is for

This page is for law enforcement officers, prosecutors, courts and other government authorities who need information about a Hemisphere Hearts account. Members who need help with their own account should email our support team or use the Report page instead.

How to send a request

Send requests by email from an official government email address to the contact below, with the subject line "Law enforcement request". We do not accept requests through member messages, social media or the in-app report function. Please include: your name, title, agency and official contact details; the case or reference number; the account identifier (profile name or the email address on the account); the specific information you are asking for and the date range; the legal basis for the request (for example a subpoena, court order or warrant); and any deadline and the reason for it.

What we need before we share data

We review every request to confirm it is valid, lawful and narrow in scope. We generally require valid legal process before sharing member data, issued by an authority with jurisdiction over us and the information requested. We may object to or ask you to narrow requests that are overly broad, unclear or not supported by law. Because our members live in many countries, we also consider the laws that protect them where they live, including data protection laws such as the LGPD in Brazil.

What information may be available

Depending on the account and how long we keep it, we may hold basic account details (such as display name, email address, country, sign-up date), profile content and photos, consent records, and activity records such as reports and moderation actions. Messages are held only as described in our Privacy policy. We cannot provide information we no longer hold. Accounts deleted at a member’s request are removed after a short period, so please send requests promptly.

Emergency requests

If someone is in imminent danger of death or serious physical harm, mark your email "EMERGENCY" in the subject line and explain the threat. We may disclose limited information without full legal process where the law allows, when we believe in good faith that doing so could prevent the harm. Contact local emergency services first. We are not a substitute for them.

Preservation requests

If you have started legal process for an account, you may ask us to preserve the relevant records while you obtain it. Send a preservation request to the contact below with the same identifying details. [Preservation period β€” to be set by the team and attorney.]

Notice to members

Unless the law prohibits it or we reasonably believe notice would put someone at risk or interfere with an investigation, we may tell the affected member about a request before we share their information. If you need us not to, please say so in your request and cite the legal basis, such as a court order or statute.

Reports we make ourselves

We may report serious violations to the authorities on our own initiative, including child safety concerns, threats of violence, human trafficking and fraud, where the law requires or allows it. See our Acceptable use policy.

Service of legal process

[Legal entity name and registered agent or physical address for service β€” to be added once the attorney confirms them.] Please send requests by email until a service address is published here. We do not accept service by social media or through the in-app report function.

Response times and costs

[Response times and any cost-reimbursement policy β€” to be set by the team and attorney.] We will acknowledge valid requests and tell you if we need more information.

Changes to this page

We may update these protocols. We will change the version date when we do.
